leather book

I was making my mom a leather-bound book. I started by covering the back of the design I was going to carve onto the book by with packing tape to protect it from the water.  Then I carved the design into the leather.

 

I stitched the paper in the inside using a simple running stitch to hold the paper in.

I then tied it off on the inside so you wouldn't see the knot.

 

I then tied a leather strap on the inside to wrap around the book and keep it shut when not in use.

I’m pretty happy with the outcome. One thing I'm not happy with is the fact that the design didn't stay imprinted well.
